【SDGS-ID Symposium vol.2】
”The Necessity of Interdisciplinary Wisdom revealed by COVID-19" (March 19, 2012)

<Event Summary>
Due to advances in science and technology, there have been many developments
in tests, therapeutic agents, and vaccines for COVID-19 over the past two years.
However, despite the widespread use of vaccines in industrialized countries,
the pandemic is far from being contained, causing not only direct health hazards
caused by the virus but also a wide range of societal challenges.
In order to surmount the challenges of COVID-19, which have become problems
that cannot be solved by medicine and public health alone,
interdisciplinary, comprehensive wisdom - including not just the natural sciences but
also the humanities and social sciences - is necessary.
Tohoku University has established the "Center of Interdisciplinary Research:
"System Design of Inclusive society with Infectious Diseases" and has been engaged in
discussions with researchers in various fields.
In this symposium, we will discuss what we should do in response to the various challenges
highlighted by COVID-19, while exchanging opinions with researchers of the younger generation
who will be responsible for the future, and drawing the big picture.
